Four Foods on Friday

This is from a blog that highlights crafts and food, two of my favorite things.

#1. What kind of pretzels are your favorite? Snyder Honey Mustard, Bits and Pieces

#2. What’s your favorite way to eat pancakes? I like to have my syrup on the side in a little cup and dip them, I think syrup on top makes them too soggy

#3. Do you make garlic bread from scratch or buy frozen? Buy frozen

#4. Share a recipe that calls for mozzarella cheese. This is one of those "feel" it as you go recipes

Tomatoes Mozzarella Delight

I container mozzarella balls, I buy mine at Trader Joe's
1 pint grape tomatoes, cut in half
EVOO, sorry, but Rachael creeps into my brain at times
Balsamic vinegar
Garlic, three cloves would be a good start, but it depends on how much you like garlic
Herbs of choice, I always use dry
~Basal
~Oregano
Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

Chop up garlic, very fine
Mix tomatoes and cheese in medium bowl
Now start pouring vinegar and olive oil in bowl, maybe 1 cp-1 1/2
Add garlic, herbs, salt and pepper, stir to combine

I think it's best to make this a day ahead so all the flavors can meld. You can serve it on ethe side, it's great with steak, or over pasta.

Thankful Thursday

I haven't done this in a few weeks. Thursday's have been stressful and I haven't exactly felt thankful. I realize that is counter to the whole point of this.

~All the ways my life has expanded in the last year.

~Sunny and cool weather. I turned the furnace on for the first time this morning, just to take the chill off.

~My period. Yep, even though I don't want it to be here, it means everything is working the way it is supposed to. My heart goes out to all the women who are TTC and don't have regular periods. I can't imagine how endless those waits must be. Plus, guilt free cider/rum drinking.

~J, he is patient and kind and forces me to laugh at myself on a regular basis.

~Molly.

~My family and friends, always.

Random Weekend Recap

Haven't felt like I have much to say lately, so I'm going with a random list.

~Right before J left on Thursday we had ATT Uverse installed. It's like watching TV in the future. I love having DVR and it has lots of cool free On Demand features. Plus, since he was gone I didn't have to share the new toy.

~I got in touch with an online friend I haven't talked to in a long time. I really thought our friendship was over, for what reason I wasn't sure. It has some life left, so fingers crossed.

~Started and finished my first cowl, and finished and blocked the cabled bag for my Mom. I hit JoAnns for handles, I don't love them, so if I make another bag I'll be checking out some other sources.

~Did some in store (Target) and online (Bathed & Infused) shopping.

~Family get together with a backyard fire, one of the best things about the weather being cooler.

~Coffee and knitting.

~Gelato.

A Little Perspective

“In one place, near at hand, a stalagmite had been slowly growing up from the ground for ages, builded by the water - drip from a stalactite overhead… That drop was falling when the Pyramids were new; when Troy fell; when the foundations of Rome were laid; when Christ was crucified; when the Conquerer created the British empire; when Columbus sailed; when the massacre at Lexington was “news”. It is falling now; it will still be falling when all these things shall have sunk down the afternoon history, and the twilight of tradition and been swallowed up in the think night of oblivion” - Mark Twain The Adventure of Tom Sawyer.

The (cake less) Wedding

Ok, so it wasn't so bad. The chocolate fountain was yummy, if not well executed. The best part was hanging out with all the guys. This was the first wedding of a close(ish) friend in, well really ever. Being the guys girl that I am I was involved in things like, decorating the couples car and doing tequila shots in the back of a rented Hummer. That part reminded me of some kind of fun prom I didn't go to where I was one of the cool kids.

Dolcessa on Brown St

Last night we went to check out Alex's new place of employment. Across from Burger King on Brown sits the hip and trendy Dolcessa. Well, Ok, it would be hip and trendy if anyone ever went there. The cafe has a warm vibe and may I say very friendly and cute young staff. Not that I'm partial or anything. The samples are a plenty which considering the amount of flavors helps to narrow it down a bit. I tried a few, Blood Orange and Rice Krispy treat, before settling on one of the seasonal choices, Pumpkin Pie in a waffle cone.

Behold, cute and friendly staff, that I am in no way related to.

This is the point where I should be showing you a picture of the gelato I had, but I forgot to take a picture until I was almost done with the cone. I will leave that as a testament to it's creamy deliciousness.

The unfortunate part of the story is this, Dolcessa isn't doing well. I think it is overlooked by the many more chains that are on Brown now. J and I agreed if it was at the Greene it would be packed every night. Of course, being at the Greene would also make it lose the family owned feel that it has now.

Ever mindful of my knitting friends I had to check out the seating.

Many chairs

And a comfy sofa

I know this sounds like a blog long advertisement and it is. I hate that so many small places with quality food get overrun by all the chains. I hope Dolcessa takes off and you can hardly find a table.

Did I mention 100% fruit smoothies?

Thankful Thursday

This week has seemed unbelievably slow. I wake up every morning thinking it must be Friday today.

So on to what I am thankful for.

~Family, with D home it seems to have increased by far more than one person. My FIL will be home this weekend for a visit and I think this feeling will be even more pronounced.

~This is my favorite time of year. The leaves are starting to change, the weather is cool and it is the beginning of baking season. I wish October was twice as long as March.

~Marriage, our anniversary is Monday and we are going to a friends (cake less) wedding this weekend. I sometimes think the idea of marriage will someday be outdated, too old fashioned. I know it isn't trendy, but I like marriage and I recommend it. Yes, it's hard, yes it is a serious commitment. There is something breathtakingly beautiful and frightening about joining hands with someone for life, throwing your lot in with theirs and taking the gamble.
